Keep pure and applied practice in the plan

The three papers contribute equally to the qualification. Paper 3 brings statistics and mechanics together, so it is useful to keep both active during revision rather than leaving one until the end.

Use mistakes to choose the next question

A wrong answer can point to a useful next step. Was the model wrong, the algebra insecure or the calculator setting unsuitable? A tutor can help you label the cause, correct the reasoning and try a fresh example. A short record of these decisions is often more useful than copying pages of completed working.

Examples of focused practice

Pure mathematics

Compare a graphical and algebraic approach to a problem. Explain when each method is helpful.

Statistics

Work with the prescribed large data set and connect statistical vocabulary to the context of a question.

Mechanics

Start with a labelled diagram, then check directions, units and the assumptions behind the model.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the International A Level?

This page is for the UK Edexcel A level, 9MA0. Pearson Edexcel International Advanced Level Mathematics is a different qualification. Check your course code before choosing a tutor.

Can tuition help with the jump from GCSE?

A tutor can revisit the algebra and trigonometry needed for the new course while supporting current lessons. Bring examples rather than assuming that every GCSE topic needs repeating.

What happens in the introduction?

The free 15-minute introduction lets you meet, explain your goals and discuss a realistic lesson plan. It is an introduction rather than a full taught lesson.
