Small practice with a clear purpose

Hear the detail

Listen for the difference between what someone normally does and what they did yesterday. Explain which words gave the clue.

Build a flexible answer

Start with a clear statement, add a reason and change the time frame. Practise adapting it to a new question rather than reciting a script.

Notice and repair

Keep a short record of recurring errors, such as adjective agreement or verb endings. Revisit them in fresh sentences.
