Make the working tell a clear story
Set up the model
Sketch the situation, label quantities and choose a direction. Explain which effects are being ignored and whether that is reasonable.
Use mathematics carefully
Track prefixes, units and significant figures. Rearrange an equation symbolically before adding numbers where that makes the reasoning clearer.
Interpret the result
Ask whether the size and direction of the answer make physical sense. Relate a graph or calculation back to the original situation.
Work on the question behind the mistake
If you repeatedly lose a mark, bring several examples rather than just one. A tutor can look for a shared issue, such as vague explanations of energy transfer or missing steps in an uncertainty calculation.
