Plan
Describe the task
Identify the inputs and required output. Break the problem into smaller operations before choosing the code.
Trace
Follow changing values
Use a trace table to record variables through a loop or selection. Explain each change instead of guessing the final output.
Test
Challenge the solution
Try normal, boundary and invalid data where appropriate. Use the result to explain what needs correcting and why.
Lessons can also explore data representation, computer systems, networks, cybersecurity and databases. For example, explain how a small database answers a question before writing the SQL. Linking a technical term to a clear example is more useful than collecting definitions without knowing when to use them.
AQA has updated the specification. The table reflects the currently published assessment overview. Confirm the version for your exam series with your school before using older papers as timed practice.
Tell your tutor which language your school uses. Support should develop the required programming concepts and the conventions used in your course, rather than assume one language suits everyone.
Yes. Discuss your starting point in a free 15-minute introduction. A small task can reveal whether the main gap is the concept, syntax or interpreting the question.
