Check whether you study OCR A or OCR B (MEI)
OCR offers Further Mathematics A, H245, and Further Mathematics B (MEI), H645. Their structures differ. This page brings OCR tutors together, but you should ask about your exact course and chosen options.
| Part | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Pure Core 1 and Pure Core 2 | Two compulsory papers. Each lasts 90 minutes, carries 75 marks and contributes 25%. |
| Two option papers | Choose the permitted combination from statistics, mechanics, discrete mathematics and additional pure mathematics. Each paper has the same duration, marks and weighting. |
Explain the first decision
Before calculating, identify what is given and what must be shown. Discuss why a particular representation or method is promising.
Keep the algebra readable
Write enough intermediate working to locate an error. Practise checking signs, assumptions and special cases before moving on.
Transfer the idea
After a supported example, try a related problem with one feature changed. This reveals whether the reasoning transfers to a new setting.
Ask explicitly. Experience with OCR does not mean every tutor teaches every option, and the options available depend on your specification.
Yes. Bring an attempted question and identify where you became stuck. A focused lesson can work on that obstacle and the prerequisite skills behind it.
