Three skills that need different practice
A supported judgement
Decide how you will weigh causes or consequences. Use evidence to sustain that judgement throughout the answer, not just in the conclusion.
An interpretation in context
Ask what a historian argues and which evidence supports or challenges it. Go further than agreeing with a quotation.
A source evaluated carefully
Consider what the source can tell you about the specific enquiry. Use its content and circumstances together rather than dismissing it as biased.
Your options matter more than a generic revision list
AQA offers several combinations of British and non-British history. Send the option names or codes before booking. Do not assume a tutor teaches every period because they know the board.
Frequently asked questions
Can I work on essay technique without starting the course again?
Yes. A marked essay often reveals a specific issue, such as narrative paragraphs or a judgement without evidence. Short planning and paragraph exercises can target that issue.
Can a tutor write or edit my investigation?
No. Your historical investigation must remain your own assessed work. Any outside guidance must follow your centre’s rules. General research and argument skills can be practised separately.
