Depending on the target assessment, lessons may cover English comprehension, vocabulary, written expression, arithmetic, mathematical problem-solving, verbal reasoning and non-verbal reasoning. Formats vary between schools and areas, so applicants should name the assessments they know rather than assume there is one universal 11+ paper.
Begin with a discussion of the family’s target schools, timetable and the child’s learning needs. Build a manageable programme that develops understanding before timed practice. Give parents clear feedback and suggest proportionate practice between sessions. Where relevant, help children explain their thinking and feel comfortable in interviews without rehearsing artificial answers.
